The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced on Friday that the team has acquired goaltender Antoine Bibeau from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for defenseman Nicolas Meloche. Bibeau will report to the Colorado Eagles' training camp.
Bibeau, 25, spent the 2018-19 season with the American Hockey League's San Jose Barracuda, where he went 16-13-5 with a .904 save percentage and a 2.89 goals-against average.
Signed by the San Jose Sharks as a free agent on July 1, 2017, Bibeau posted a 23-14-4 record in his first season with the Barracuda in 2017-18. He had a .919 save percentage and a 2.37 goals-against average, earning a spot on the Pacific Division's All-Star Team.
A sixth-round selection (172nd overall) of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2013 NHL Draft, Bibeau has played in two NHL contests, both starts, and went 1-1-0 with a .927 save percentage and a 1.99 goals-against average. He has a 95-60-20 record, .909 save percentage, 2.71 goals-against average and 16 shutouts in 182 career AHL appearances with the Toronto Marlies and Barracuda. The 6-foot-3, 213-pound goaltender has competed in the Calder Cup Playoffs for five consecutive seasons (2015-19), recording a .890 save percentage and a 3.12 goals-against average in 19 total postseason appearances.
Bibeau played three full seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League from 2011-14, registering a 58-38-10 record, a .901 save percentage and a 3.24 goals-against average in 126 career outings for the Lewiston MAINEiacs, Prince Edward Island Rocket, Charlottetown Checkers and Val-d'Or Foreurs. The Victoriaville, Quebec, native helped Val-d'Or capture the President's Cup as QMJHL champions in 2014 and was awarded the Guy Lafleur Trophy as the most valuable player of the playoffs. He posted a .932 save percentage and a 2.76 goals-against average for the Foreurs in the Memorial Cup, earning tournament All-Star and most outstanding goaltender honors.

Notes on Simon Bedard live w/ Thomas Bordeleau, Nicolas Meloche and Nathan Légaré (20/04/2022) (link).
I tried my best to translate most of Thom said in that one. Emphasis on tried because everyone’s wifi sucks in this and I still haven’t held a conversation with a canadian once in my life. Anyway, let’s go.
he’s keeping his head above water, having lost in TD Garden the week before, 4 pro games in, a lot of turnarounds lately, he tries to take the most of things in like a sponge
the days after being eliminated from the Frozen 4 were tough, he says : “you know, we kind of knew already -Me, Power, Beniers, Johnson, Brisson- you know we knew, and some other older guys obviously, that it was time to go, and you know, I see all of my boys like (interviewer says something I don’t understand) it’s tough, we look at eachother, we’re all sitting together in our living room. Friday, Saturday, we just lost and we think that it’s our last moments together, a lot of nostalgia in the air, that’s moments to keep forever but we were all excited to start our pro career so it was a mix of emotions but it was for sure moving/touching (émouvant)”
relationship with teammates is different between Juniors and College because in Juniors they’re all in their billet family while in Michigan all the team is separated in 5 houses and they have the freedom to do whatever they want, you grow all together
they (the guys who wanted to go) already knew their time was coming to an end, it was the right time for them to do even if it didn’t end the way they wanted, it would have been different if only one of them had stayed, would have been a little weird feeling if they hadn’t all taken the same decision, at least it had this little “plus”
him and the Sharks haven’t really talked about the WJC yet because so much has been happening over the last days already, it would be fun for him to be able to go after what happened the last two years but at the same time, they need to check the pro cons of losing two months of pro training (between team usa camp, the tournament…), he wants to finish his season first and then they’ll see
the NHL is very different from College, he saw the guys that he’d seen at development camp the year before (Merkley and others), some veterans were very welcoming, but the guys have their own lifes with their family so you take care more of your own thing
he kind of met the guy one by one when they were arriving for lunch when they got to Minnesota and they were all nice, welcoming him, giving him something
even with the short time in the NHL, he says it will definitely give him extra motivation to train this summer, mentally it’s huge
having an assist in his first game was definitely a relief, gave him a boost of confidence but the first games also let him know what he wants/needs to work on to better his game
he gave his assist puck and 1st game puck to his parents who were there in Minnesota along with the game sheet of his 1st game, he said that he will think about keeping things for himself a while later and it’ll be nice to have once he retires and is with his kids
about playing against Nick & KJ : “definitely special, like I told you earlier, we were making the decision together on leaving or not in the living room a week ago and now we’re both wearing NHL jerseys a week later, it was fun the day before, we were talking about being here all 3 and we were trying to live in the present but it was weird, while I was on the bench seeing them on shift with Blue Jackets jerseys, super weird but fun”
it will also be weird to play against guys from Québec and who he played with/against growing up, fun to see the boys have success
he tries to get as comfortable as he can (with the team/everything) right now because next year will be his true first complete big year and a lot has been happening already over the last few days, which has been a little draining (especially not knowing what was going to happen next), now he just has to focus on hockey and perform and everything will be alright
having some québécois on the team helps to feel at home a little
he’s surprised people forget he speaks french because his name is Bordeleau but he acknowledges it must be because of his years spent in the USA/the being American thing
he talked about his memories from WJC when he was a kid, snow outside, Christmas tree in the corner of the room, good memories and emotions — he doesn’t know what to think about this summer yet, they’ll need to see with the Sharks and he thinks people will show up in Edmonton and make it special even if it’s in the middle of the summer
he’s going to take a week off the ice but he needs to hit the gym again soon because he hasn’t had the time to touch a weight in a while with all the games he had to play
